Chickling Vetch (Lathyrus sativus), also known as grass pea or cicerchia, is a drought-tolerant annual legume used as a cover crop for nitrogen fixation, erosion control, and weed suppression, as well as for human consumption in some cultures, though its seeds contain a neurotoxin that can cause lathyrism if eaten as a primary protein source. It is a versatile plant that tolerates various soil types and can be planted in early spring, thriving in drier conditions than other legumes.
