Description

Safflower seeds are small, achene-like fruits with a thick, angular, and often striped hull, typically 6-9mm long and white or brownish-white. They are rich in oil, which is used for culinary purposes and skincare, and the seeds themselves are a nutritious feed for pet birds and small mammals. The seeds are derived from the safflower plant (Carthamus tinctorius), an ancient, thistle-like annual herb known as “false saffron” for its use as a cheaper alternative to saffron.
